Assigning Permissions
Learn how to assign permissions from within OneBoxBM.
Assign permissions, within OneBoxBM, to all users, user groups and individual users.
Key Points
When dealing with permissions, the main points to be aware of are.
- Permissions can be assigned to all system users, groups of users and individual users.
- When determining whether or not a user can perform a certain action or access a certain area of the
application. The system will check if the user has been granted access at any level.
- It's possible to grant access to perform certain actions against employment records only if the
employee s part of a certain group.
- In order to manage permissions, you must be granted access to do so.
-
You can find a full overview of the permissions system and details of each permission in the
permissions help section; We recommend that you have a read through the overview document prior to
assigning any permissions.
Step-by-step
See below for a step-by-step guide on assigning permissions; the process is the same regardless of whether
you are assigning permissions to all system users, groups of users or individual users.
Assigning permissions
- Navigate to the 'Admin' area using the system menu.
- Expand the 'Permissions' section and select the relevant item.
- All User Permissions: Manage permssions for all userss.
- User Group Permissions: Manage permissions for users in specific user groups.
- User Permissions: Manage permissions for individual users.
- Click/press the button 'Manage'.
- Once the dialog has opened you will be able to select where to assign the permissions.
-
Go through the list of permissions and select what actions you wish to grant access to.
-
You might notice some permissions are inferred, this just means that access to the action
has been granted as the result of granting access to another action; You can't update a
record if you can't even see it.
There is a good chance you might only wish to only grant access to something if the employee is part of
a group; the manager of a department should only be able to manage time off/leave requests for the
employees in their department.
If this is not the case, you can skip over the next part.
- Select a group using the 'Employee Group' dropdown/menu in the top right of the dialog.
- Upon selection, the permissions will change to show what access has been granted when viewing
employees in the selected group.
-
Go through the list of permissions and select what actions you wish to grant access to.
-
Once you've made your selections, you can either select another group or click/press the (x) next
to the group name in the list to go back to the main list of permissions.
Now that access has been granted all that's left to do is click/press the 'Save' button.
